SPS Denver provides opportunities every semester for its members to engage in community outreach through physics education. Over the past few years we have developed a relationship with the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver to encourage scientific curiosity in children and young adults. Our members have visited numerous clubs throughout the metro area, bringing interactive physics demos to kids of all ages.
Last year we expanded our outreach by participating in NanoDays celebrations at a local library, and hosting our first ever "Be a Scientist Day." This event was another collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club, focused on high-school-aged members interested in the sciences. Participants had the opportunity to tour the Auraria scientific facilities and learn everything from soldering skills and basic circuit design to DNA extraction.
Future outreach events will be posted on the calendar, and we are always happy to see new faces.
